Today I’m reading my copy of Make: Design for CNC. I don’t have access to a CNC router but I’d like to learn a little about what’s possible.

I have the MPCNC, which is extremely affordable (by CNC standards) at something like US$300 (IIRC) if you buy everything. Less if you can print your own. You can make it whatever size you like (up to a reasonable maximum) to fit the space you have. It can definitely route wood, albeit slowly, and can also be mounted with a laser, drag knife, pen, fourth axis, etc.
It is definitely a lightweight machine with compromises, but it was a fun build and can do a lot.
