I don’t mean that I’ve seen that formally defined anywhere. But when I’m working on a system, I always list those four things to myself, because one of them is the bottleneck, and changing the others probably won’t do you any good; if you’re out of CPU, more network bandwidth won’t do shit.
Right. Your advice generalizes to “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, which is actually a really good piece of advice! Right up there with “never cut what can be untied”.
