In this video I take a look at Electrical Engineering 101: Everything You Should Have Learned in School…but Probably Didn’t 3rd Edition written by Darren Ashby and published in 2011.

In the book the author mentioned that they used to write for chipcenter.com which appears to have since been taken over by EE Times. ChatGPT provided more information.

The author also mentioned Mathcad. I’m planning to check that out over here: https://www.mathcad.com/

And some terms which came up (ChatGPT explains further):

Vcc
Voltage at the collector
Vee
Voltage at the emitter
Vdd
Voltage at the drain
Vss
Voltage at the source

In this video I unbox the OULLX NSS-681HDMI-RJ45 Cable Tester from AliExpress and compare it with the Ampcom Automatic Network Cable Tester also from AliExpress.

Ampcom Automatic Network Cable TesterThis is an image of the product.notes

Note that the Ampcom is advertised as the ANENG M469D on AliExpress, but that’s not actually what you get. The Ampcom model that you do get seems to work well enough, but I would recommend the OULLX NSS-681HDMI-RJ45 because it’s cheaper and can do HDMI in addition to Ethernet.

New spot for Dremel

My Dremel used to be installed under my bench (the bench I call the “booth”). But it was a hassle to get it out when I needed to use it. So I have relocated it to a spot next to my main bench (the bench I call the “bench”). So far so good. With the benefit of experience I should be able to figure out the best way to route the power cable.

John's Dremel mounted to his shelf

p.s. I tried to find a new one of these Dremel wall mounts to purchase, but I couldn’t find one for sale anywhere… if you find one for sale somewhere, please do let me know!

My mat is screwed

I had a problem with my repair mat wherein it would slowly slide up the table. I had tried sticking it to the table with double sided tape, but the problem is the mat is very “non-stick”, nothing sticks to it. So I used two small screws to hold it to the table. Time will tell if the screws hold or not… (and yes, it *is* upside down… this is so that I can get my low component drawers out… :P)

In this video I clean my 1% and 2% tolerance resistors (my 5% tolerance resistors were cleaned previously). That’s 37 component trays worth, being 37 different types from 1Ω to 1MΩ. During the video I print new labels for the component drawers with my label maker and I use my iPhone to double check the colour coding.
