Kubuntu 24.04
I want to install some software to check it out (MySQL and MySQL Workbench) but I’m having trouble making it work on Debian. So I decided to spin up an Ubuntu instance for this job. I picked Kubuntu 24.04 (Ubuntu with KDE Plasma desktop) and this is my first go at using Ubuntu 24.04. Figured I should document the installation experience, which I have done here.

USB Cables Drawer
I organized my USB cables drawer. Left is USB 2.0, right is USB 3.0. Front is Mini-B and iPhone cables (including Lightening cables), middle is Micro-B (5-pin and 10-pin) and Type-A, back is Type-B. Conspicuously absent are Type-C which are filed in a different drawer. Also front-right are adapters, switches, hubs, and there’s even a USB light in there.

This is an old video I found while tidying up my files today. I recorded this back in September 2023, around about a year ago. Figured I might as well publish it on Elliot’s Extras.
In this video I unbox my Yum Cha M6013 Capacitance Meter and my Yum Cha MESR-100 ESR Meter. Then I attach some banana plugs to one of my Yum Cha Probe Tweezers.

Fluke 17B+ Multimeter

Achievement Unlocked: Exceed YouTube Maximum Video Size
Today I went to upload a 10 hour 256.4GB video to YouTube. I was blocked because the current maximum video size is 256GB. Missed it by that much. :P
Extra Content #14: Previously Unreleased Content: Cleaning Resistors and Having a Chat | In The Lab

Today I was organising my media files and I found this old video. I recorded this back in August 2023 but I never released it. I think back then I didn’t have this second channel and I decided this video wasn’t good enough for the main channel, so it just kind of got forgotten. But I thought it was fun so I have published it here for the record.
In this video I do a time lapse of me cleaning my resistors. While the time lapse is playing I include a narration in which I discuss things I had been reading at the time. There are two links for the show notes, being these:
- You Suck at Excel with Joel Spolsky (since deleted, bummer)
- Laws and Sausages
