My QWORK Dual Solder Dispenser came with only one outlet per reel, but I wanted three outlets per reel, so I glued on some craft sticks with holes drilled in them and added three zip ties to each for extra mechanical support.

1W 1% Metal Film Resistors
Today I purchased 1,200 1W 1% metal film resistors for my lab. Particularly I wanted a bunch of disposable resistors which I can use once in a soldered circuit which I will throw in the junk box when I’m done with it. The main application for that at the moment is my Learning the Art of Electronics project which I’m working on. I only had space for twelve varieties and I got 100 of each type. Being 1W rather than the typical 1/4W makes them a little more forgiving on the bench in the case of overload and the 1% tolerances keep things nice and tight. The values I picked include:
- 10 Ω
- 100 Ω
- 470 Ω
- 1 kΩ
- 2.2 kΩ
- 4.7 kΩ
- 10 kΩ
- 15 kΩ
- 20 kΩ
- 47 kΩ
- 100 kΩ
- 1 MΩ

Making a safe bench supply from a salvaged transformer
I have asked a question over on the EEVblog Beginners Forum: Making a safe bench supply from a salvaged transformer. I want to learn if it’s possible to make a low voltage AC bench supply from mains input in a safe way which could tolerate an accidental short circuit.
